Community Aid and Sponsorship Programme (CASP)

Origins:

Community Aid and Sponsorship Programme (CASP) was established in 1976 by Dr S.D. Gokhale, a social scientist, in Mumbai, India. Dr Gokhale was motivated to create this organisation post witnessing the stigmatisation of children affected by leprosy and deformities and its effect on their education. He designed this sponsorship programme to ensure that all disadvantaged children were educated without the fear of being institutionalised away from their family or being discriminated against. Since its commencement in 1976, CASP has grown and established itself across six states in India.

About CASP:

CASP is a not-for-profit organization committed to the sustainable development and strengthening of disadvantaged children, families and communities. CASP’s mission is to diversify and strengthen its organisational competency to develop and implement strategies and programs to enhance the capacities of children, families and communities through empowerment, participation and advocacy. It further aims to spread its presence to at least fifty of the most backward districts in India including urban slums. By implementing various programs including early childhood care and development, education, healthcare and livelihood, CASP works to provide holistic support to the communities they aid.
