Gurukul Sangeet Vidyalaya

Origins:

Gurukul Sangeet Vidyalaya was founded in 2014 by Mrs Manjusha Kulkarni-Patil, a well-known Indian classical music vocalist, as an homage to the musical heritage of her teacher: Guruvarya Late Pandit D.V. Kanebua. In addition to continuing the lineage of her teacher, Mrs Kulkarni-Patil aimed to support the growth of Indian classical music and groom upcoming talents locally.

About Gurukul Sangeet Vidyalaya:

Gurukul Sangeet Vidyalya is a small, not-for-profit organisation based in Sangli, India that provides Indian classical music training and mentorship programs to cultivate local talents. Rooted in the traditional Indian concept of a ‘Gurukul’ which entails the imparting of knowledge from a 'Guru' (the teacher) to a 'Shishya' (the student), Gurukul Sangeet Vidyalaya functions to go beyond mere teaching of content to a more holistic approach including cultural mentoring.

With greater support, Gurukul Sangeet Vidyalaya aims to extend its enriching work to other cities across Maharashtra, India. Additionally, it hopes to create a repertoire of books and audio/video recordings that act as a rich source of knowledge for their students. They further aim to organise more music workshops, lecture demonstrations and seminars to attract more music enthusiasts in the area.
