Solar Buddy

Origins:

Simon Doble, inventor and social impact entrepreneur, was inspired in 2011 by a Time magazine article on the harsh reality of people living in the absence of safe and reliable lighting. This sparked a will in Doble to use his skills and knowledge for the betterment of these people and consequently, he designed a renewable energy-powered light that became a source of light in refugee camps across the world. He expanded his work to raise global awareness about the magnitude of energy poverty and designing solar light solutions for affected communities thus giving rise to SolarBuddy in 2016.

About Solar Buddy:

SolarBuddy is an Australian charity uniting a global community to illuminate the futures of children living in energy poverty. Their primary objective is to gift 6 million solar lights to children living in energy poverty by 2030 to help them study after dusk and consequently improve their education outcomes. Through engagement in their programs, Solar Buddy hopes to inspire their community to learn how innovative design solutions can help create a more sustainable world for all people and our planet, and demonstrate how the gift of lights can transform lights.
